Himalayan Bulbul

Himalayan Bulbul Pycnonotus leucogenys ranges from Pakistan to Bhutan, with some records from Tibet near border with Nepal. ID & COMPARISON Distinctive, greyish-brown bulbul. Conspicuous, forward-bending brown crest distinguishes from White-eared Bulbul P. leucotis. HABITAT Forests and scrub, to 1800 m (5,910 ft.). ID Face, throat, and chin black. Black crescent extends from behind ear toward chin, isolating distinct white ear patch. Yellow vent. Nape, mantle, and wings brownish; tail black with white tip. VOICE Call a rolling chatter; song a series of short bursts of whistles. — Craig Brelsford
