Stork-billed Kingfisher

Stork-billed Kingfisher Pelargopsis capensis ranges India to Philippines and Greater Sundas. In China spottily reported southern and western Yunnan. Ssp. in region probably burmanica. ID Very large, with huge red bill; orange feet. Crown and sides of head pale brown. Mantle, wings, and tail mainly greenish-blue; rump turquoise. Neck and underparts buffish-orange. Juvenile duller, with dark scaling on breast. VOICE Loud cackling call; coarse alarm cry. — Craig Brelsford
