Purple Heron Ardea purpurea, Lake Wuliangsu, Inner Mongolia, China, September. Chestnut coloration and smaller size distinguish from more common Grey Heron A. cinerea. Purple Heron occurs in Africa and across Eurasia. Breeds northeast China and is resident in south. Purple Heron is uncommon in Shanghai. (Craig Brelsford)
