Formerly considered conspecific with Sharpe’s rosefinch. In China resident in Nyalam County, Tibet; range does not abut that of Sharpe’s. Very similar to Sharpe’s, but slightly larger, stockier, and larger-billed. Male is darker, and female is slightly browner and has fainter streaking, especially on rump.
