Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca, adult male in flight (above), juvenile or female on water (below), Lake Wuliangsu, Inner Mongolia, China, September. Ferruginous Duck breeds on lakes and marshes from Eastern Europe to Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Northeast China. The iris of the female and juvenile is brown; white in male. Also known as Ferruginous Pochard, Ferruginous Duck is an uncommon winter visitor and passage migrant in Shanghai. (Craig Brelsford)
