Eastern Water Snake Trimerodytes percarinatus is a primarily aquatic species. It is non-venomous and hunts frogs, tadpoles, and small fish and crustaceans in clear mountain streams. I found this specimen in June in the heavily forested Dabie Mountains in Henan, China. The unusually pure stream also supported freshwater crabs. Trimerodytes percarinatus goes by various names, among them Mountain Water Snake, Chinese Keelback Water Snake, and Olive Keelback.
