Common Reed Warbler Acrocephalus scirpaceus ranges Western Europe and Africa to Central Asia, with fuscus breeding northern Xinjiang. HABITAT & BEHAVIOR Breeds among tall reeds, upon which it climbs nimbly. ID & COMPARISON Separated with difficulty from Blyth’s Reed Warbler A. dumetorum. Has dull creamy supercilium, most distinct in front of eye, and brownish eye-stripe. Crown and upperparts olive-brown, with rufous tinge to rump and uppertail coverts. Underparts creamy white, throat and chin cleaner white. Flanks buff. Blyth’s Reed Warbler is much more arboreal, has short, blunt wings, and lacks rufous tinge to rump and uppertail coverts. BARE PARTS Bill brown above, yellow below. Feet grey-brown. VOICE Song simpler, softer, and slower-paced than Blyth’s Reed Warbler. — Craig Brelsford
